A group of master plumbers led by Ido De Bernardo formed a co-operative in 1964 to establish a merchant chain throughout New Zealand.

The goals of this chain were to improve the profitability and quality of service and products to its plumber shareholders. Calling themselves NZ Plumbers’ Merchants Society (NZPMS), they purchased a small plumbing merchant/importer and NZPM was on its way.

Today, with around 1,000 shareholders, NZPM is the only 100% New Zealand owned national plumbing co-operative.
